I've had these photos sitting around since May last year, so I thought I'd better pull my finger out and put together a gallery:

The Route

The route is on Bikely, but to summarise it runs from East Malvern railway station via Gardiners Creek Trail to the Yarra Trail, then onto Swanston St near Flinders Street Station.

Gear

I took these shots over several days using a BenQ 1300 digital camera—a "classy" (if somewhat quirky) instrument that I picked up for twenty bucks on eBay. For the money, it produces passable photos most of the time. But sometimes it produces some odd and striking effects, which I'm sure you'll notice as you go along—all of the photos are straight from the camera (resized and rotated only).

Oh my god—I've inspired Adrian Fitch in London…

However I should mention that this ain't my idea: there are plenty of other photo essays that I'm aware of, including fellow Melburnians jur, eek, Tim Connor, smc and woowoowoo.

Plus a number of other photo sets and videos that I've found last year in April, April again, May, May again, and September.

Incidentally, if you know of any more like these (or if you've done one yourself) please let me know!

I left a comment a couple of days ago but the spam killer zapped it! I would like to encourage any Melbourne trail riders/commuters to use their knowledge to enhance the bike trail info as seen in Wikipedia - which is currently pretty limited. The trails are great a great resource but there is very little detailed info re the trails, available on the web. ie where are these trails and where are you most likely to lose the trail once on one.

The Spam Filter has been a bit unreliable in the last week or so. But never mind, Zed got through in the end! Yeah, I'd like to endorse that and I'll see what I can contribute.

Hi I am from Mexico, I will be studying at RMIT, I will be living at Glen Iris. Can I bike from Glen Iris to the CBD ? how long it will take me? thank you ft

Following the route that's on my blog, the distance from High St in Glen Iris to RMIT University is about 12 or 13km. As you can see from my photos, the route is quiet, safe and mostly flat.
