Kids mount-up in Benalla
Not waiting for Ride2School Day, the kids at three schools in Benalla are already making a habit of going by bike.
Ride2School Day is on 28 March:
On Ride2School Day parents and teachers are encouraged to leave the car at home and get students riding, walking, skating or scootering to school.
But the Herald-Sun reports school kids in Benalla are already well ahead:
Benalla West Primary School principal Louise Wright said Bicycle Victoria’s Ride2School program and school “bike hikes” had helped unite a town hit hard by drought and bushfires.
“We are delighted with the support of the whole Benalla community for the idea of getting children riding bikes,” Ms Wright said.
“People in the community give up their time because they can see the enormous benefits for children of being physically fit and taking on a personal challenge.”
As part of BV’s Hands Up! survey, they found that 44% of Benalla kids rode to school in December. Good on them!
And these kids are going out on “bike hikes” of up to 40km—how cool is that?
