Tempestuous weather and mad cyclists
We’ve become so used to a lack of rain in these parts that I don’t think I can call yesterday’s downpour unseasonal, just unusual. But even in the wind and rain, crazy mad cyclists were out on the roads…
Earlier in the year, Gangnails and I tossed around the idea of fronting up to Scotty’s Ride in Shepparton this weekend. But unfortunately, for one reason and another, we both weren’t available to do it.
Yesterday I got a text message from Gangnails reporting that it was a “seriously wet day” in the state’s north-east and he added “I am sooo glad I’m not riding 125k in Scotty’s ride today”. But it sounds like pretty much everyone who signed-up for it, showed up for it in the wet and windy conditions. Sounds like it was very cold. A bloody good effort.
And speaking of wet and windy conditions, check out these photos of the Audax brevet up in the Dandenongs on Saturday. I was ruled-out of this one well before the weather forecast was known but I wasn’t complaining too much about not getting out there yesterday morning! Another good effort.
To my credit I did jump on the bike yesterday, if only to run a few errands and pick up a paper parcel from the fish and chip shop. Once I was wet, I couldn’t resist taking a detour and splashing through a few puddles along the local bike path—but that wasn’t a patch on the riders at Shepp or in the hills or anyone who did any significant distance in the wet and wind yesterday.
