Speedlinking 7 September 2007
Fish haven’t fallen from the sky since my last effort, so it must still be safe for me to speedlink…
High tech
- I mentioned the NuVinci planetary hub a few months back, but Bike Commuters have actually been able to lay their hands on one to review. The only drawback I can see is the 5kg. And the only other drawback I can see is the price. But I’ve no doubt that if this really is a hot technology, both of these will improve in pretty short order.
High mountains
- I notice that the 2008 Audax Alpine Classic has opened for registrations—for Audax members, previous riders, and people on the waiting list.

It’s spring and cyclists are everywhere in Melbourne—Bindi Nestor is getting excited about cycling in general and training up for Around the Bay in particular.

I was up in Melbourne on the weekend and was astounded at the number of cyclists out and about on a lovely spring day. There were millions of them. I’m in training for the ATB, and also the Alpine Classic. Waiting for the day to warm and then I’m off to tackle the mighty Vinces Saddle.
That’s something I’ve been meaning to blog about recently: there are definitely more cyclists out at this time than there were at the same point in previous years. Of course, I’ve got no numbers to support that claim but it’s almost like the height of summer at times on the trails.
