Having trouble thinking of someting to get your dad for Fathers Day?
How about an entry into the Fathers Day 5? It promises to be “5km’s of Fun – Walk, Jog or Run!” The event is being held this Sunday in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, and $5 from each entry will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation to support research into prostate cancer.
I’ve got mixed views about this event. While I’m not best pleased that a paltry 20% of the entry fee is going to the charity, it’s a great opportunity to get an important message out there.
Did you know?
More than 2,700 Australian men die from prostate cancer each year
As many men die from prostate cancer as women die from breast cancer
More than 12,000 cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed annually in Australia
Simple testing by your GP can help diagnose prostate cancer
Anyway, I hope they get a good turn-out—and why not? It’ll be a fun day out for a good cause.
Suggestion
But if you’re like me and not really into big events, you might like to do as I’m doing: cut-out the middle man, donate all of the $26.50 entry fee straight to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and go for a quiet bike ride instead.
Value every moment you have with your father, and make sure he talks to his doctor about prostate cancer.
