I heartily recommend a pair of safety glasses as effective protection against getting little critters in your eyes.

But it turns out eye protection can be just as effective at keeping out considerably bigger crawlies:

Buzzzzz-splat!

This one hit so hard it jammed itself between the lens and the frame—better there than in the cornea!

I've copped one of them in the eye while riding once. Fortunately it wasn't stinger first, but eyes watering in peak hour traffic is not condusive to a pleasant ride.

Oww-uch! Yeah, that's the main reason why I always wear eye protection: if you can't see, you can't steer, and if you can't steer…

A little bit but only when I'm stopped at traffic lights and then it only takes a second or two for them to clear when I'm off again. If it's bad I give them a bit of a wipe.

Foggy mornings can be a bit challenging with moisture settling on the lenses, but I'd still rather have my eyes covered.

Do you have trouble with yours steaming up in this weather?

Yikes. I only have sunnies at the moment and have been riding without them when its been a bit dim but I think I will ave to invest in some cycling glasses with changeable lenses. I'm quite attached to this whole sight thing I have going on at the moment...

Oh btw, love the blog- I linked to it from my blog (hope thats cool).

You don't even need to lash-out for expensive "cyclist" glasses—I have two pairs of safety glasses (one tinted, one clear) that I picked up at a well-known hardware chain for about 2 a throw. And they look just like the real thing.
