Celluloid Cycles returns in 2007
The Celluloid Cycles film festival is back, with another great line-up of “bicycles on film”.
Thanks to tom for tipping me off that the Celluloid Cycles film festival is on again next week, from March 29 to April 1 at RMIT Uni’s Kaleide Theatre. It was a great line-up last year, which I totally managed to miss. No doubt I’ll completely miss it again this year, but there are some great looking films that I’d really like to have a look at.

Titles that stand out to me include (in no particular order):
- The World of Work Bikes
-
Gives a taste of how bikes are used for commercial and industrial purposes.
- Kate
-
Ever wondered what your friends and family really think of your riding? Are you a non-riding partner? Ever wanted your feelings about sharing your love with a bicycle articulated? Kate sums it up.
- Bicycle Ladies
-
In this delightful cut-out animation [gotta love an animation], the family butler recounts the fascination of a Victorian woman with the newest form of transportation—the bicycle.
- Beauty and the Bicycle
-
A meditation on the art of frame building.
- Vive Le Tour
-
With its eloquent and evocative photography, accompanied by Georges Delerue’s enchanting music, this is less a documentary and more a visual poem which says almost all there needs to be said on the greatest cycle race in the world.
- Coalesce
-
An insight into the Geelong and South West BMX scene. A view of powerful friendships and great riding talent a long way from the bright lights. Skills in Sleepy Hollow.
It’s great that Celluloid Cycles has returned and it’s great that there are so many excellent examples of bicycles on film
to showcase. And it’s doubly good that this homegrown festival looks like becoming an ongoing annual event, especially considering that the touring Bicycle Film Festival didn’t end up landing in Melbourne last year.
