Let’s call it assault with a deadly weapon
Let’s call a spade a bloody shovel. This is not, as AAP reported, “a hit-and-run incident”–it’s criminal assault.
News.com.au has published a story from AAP:
A cyclist has been seriously injured in a hit and run incident in south-east Queensland.
Uh oh, I can feel the ol’ blood pressure rising…
Police said the 38-year-old man was riding his mountain bike on Bellini Road at Burpengary on the Sunshine Coast about 3.55pm (AEST) yesterday when a black sports sedan drove towards him.
As the car approached a front seat passenger opened the door, which struck the cyclist on the leg.
The car then drove away without stopping to help.
No doubt laughing uproariously at their hilarious jape…
The cyclist suffered serious injuries to his leg, including lacerations which exposed the bone.
He was taken to Redcliffe Hospital and later transferred to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
pedaller is calling it attempted murder, and I couldn’t agree more. This one goes far beyond merely failing to render assistance at the scene of a traffic collision—which is bad enough—this is a deliberate, criminal assault.
It’s a matter of chance and centimetres that the cyclist was merely seriously injured on his leg. He could have suffered permanent disability due to spinal and/or head injuries, or been killed outright. Fortunately, it sounds like the sort of injury that will heal—no doubt with prolonged and painful rehabilitation.
When these fuckwits are found they should be treated as the common murdering scumbags that they are. But knowing the way things go, I’ll be surprised if the driver’s license is cancelled.
I never thought I’d find myself saying something this, but this sort of outcome is the justice those bastards deserve.
I second pedaller’s best wishes for the cyclist’s speedy and complication-free recovery.
[Going outside to kick something…]
