It’s been a while since I’ve seen reports on a commuter challenge, so I’m happy to note this in the Edinburgh Evening News:
Cyclists emerged victorious in a battle to find the quickest way to travel into Edinburgh city centre.
A “commuter challenge” was staged in the city to find the fastest way to get to work, with bikes winning three of the four races.
But cars were never far behind:
Despite concerns over congestion in Edinburgh, and a perceived lack of city centre parking spaces, the commuters travelling by car were never the slowest.
Interestingly, public transport fared pretty badly on most counts except
Bus passenger Graham Anderson received the prize for cheapest journey at just £1 from Ingliston, or 14p a mile
Hmmm…I’ll let that one pass without contest.
For a change, the readers’ comments are mostly pretty lucid, identifying that motorbikes would probably win most routes and that more end-of-ride facilities are a prerequisite to increasing commuter cyclist numbers.
