Mud is gorgeous too
smc’s off-road commute is wet, muddy and slippery – and gorgeous!
From BV Forums comes a photo essay of smc’s off-road commute:
Inspired by jur’s photo journey to work, thought I’d give it a go, if you’re bored have a look… you might want a pop-up blocker, it’s a free website so they throw ad’s at you (sorry). First few pics are a bit ordinary (dark and foggy), but they get better
Some people will go to quite extraordinary lengths to stay off the sealed stuff and get mud jammed into their pedals! What a great ride – but (call me chicken if you like) I don’t think I could see myself going that way on a really wet day…
When I mentioned jur’s commute back in March, I said “Without a doubt commuting by bike in Melbourne can be just gorgeous.” Well, I reckon gorgeous can mean “wet, muddy and slippery” – depending on your point of view!

That second pic is all wrong. From a MTB perspective, that sort of trail damage totally shits land managers & riders alike. That’s why over a dozen+ cyclists and Parks Vic bods headed out to Lysterfield on Sunday morn & filled in the bog holes on one of the more popular bits of singletrack. Maybe you should read some of the trail stuff on the IMBA site.
