Well, I’m off to a new job tomorrow – same salt mine, different mine shaft. I just went over to dump some stuff and check out the new office (nice corner desk with a window that opens – there’s one in the eye for woowoowoo!)
Anyway, I spent a few minutes scouting around for bike parking options. I’m not really keen on leaving the treadly outside – it’s partly that I don’t like leaving it out in the weather but more importantly it’s working in the bike-theft centre of Melbourne that strongly discourages the idea.
Well it doesn’t look good. The underground carpark across the road has half a dozen bike lockers but they all look permanently occupied. Maybe I’ll be able to convince my new work mates (and the local OH&S enforcer) to let me stash it in the office, but strictly speaking that’s not allowed so no guarantees there.
As for shower facilities – I can forget about that. But I’m already used to the inconvenience of having to sneak into other buildings to find a shower.
And it looks very much like the new job will keep me much busier during the day, which will leave me with a little less time for rambling here. And that’s probably not a bad thing either…
Hmm, if you have a quick release front wheel, is it possible that your boss would allow you to bring just the front wheel into the office? Might make it a tad more difficult for some miscreant to nick your bike…..unless they nick a wheel of somebody elses ride of course :) Just a thought

I guess one of the attractions of bike theft is that the thief can use the stolen goods to make a quick getaway – no one is going to do that on a bike with the wheel missing. And walking along with a one-wheeled bike only invites questions.
I don’t think anyone could object to my bringing a single wheel inside, but I’m going to follow the lead of a few of my new workmates and bring the front wheel in still attached. I’ve got an out of the way corner in the office in which to stash the beast and if someone objects I’ll politely feign ignorance.
